Is Food Scenery? Generative Situations in Urban Networked Photography

چکیده
In surveying the images of cities presented on the public image-sharing website Flickr.comTM, certain subjects appear with surprising frequency, inspiring reflection and research questions. For example, anecdotal observations by one of the authors seem to indicate that food, from items on display in outdoor markets to meals about to be eaten in restaurants, is a popular theme with Flickr users. Why should this be? This and other questions prompted us to review accounts of urban photography practices that we have collected in the course of our and our colleagues’ [1, 2] ongoing empirical study of personal photography including Flickr. This study consists of 11 interviews with Flickr users, mostly undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of programs on the UC Berkeley campus. All of our interview subjects live in the San Francisco Bay Area, many in urban centers such as Berkeley and San Francisco. In some cases, the city they photographed was home; in others, it was a travel destination or a waypoint en route to someplace else.

Automated Model Creation from Aerial Photography
Creating a model, instead of just making measurements, is a common task in photogrammetry today. Methods can vary depending on the requirements, data availability, and type of scenery. The amount of user input is one major differentiating factor. The methods discussed in this paper align closely with a typical workflow for urban mapping from aerial photographs.
متن کاملNon-local Characterization of Scenery Images: Statistics, 3D Reasoning, and a Generative Model
This work focuses on characterizing scenery images. We semantically divide the objects in natural landscape scenes into background and foreground and show that the shapes of the regions associated with these two types are statistically different. We then focus on the background regions. We study statistical properties such as size and shape, location and relative location, the characteristics o...

The Long before B. Joseph Pine II established a viable economic strategy around the concept of Mass Customization, and Dell Computer’s execution of a custom build-to-order strategy, combinatorial theory (configuring of modular components) and generative systems have been employed in biological systems, grammatical sentence structure in linguistics, and also in architectural and urban design. Th...

This article explores the capacity of a decision support system (DSS) to improve the quality of decision making in extreme situations. This DSS is actually based on a networked information system (IS). Academic literature commonly mentions models of fit to explore the relationship between technology and performance, reckoning users’ evaluations as a relevant measurement technique for Informatio...
متن کاملModelling and Compensation of uncertain time-delays in networked control systems with plant uncertainty using an Improved RMPC Method
Control systems with digital communication between sensors, controllers and actuators are called as Networked Control Systems (NCSs). In general, NCSs encounter with some problems such as packet dropouts and network induced delays. When plant uncertainty is added to the aforementioned problems, the design of the robust controller that is able to guarantee the stability, becomes more complex. In...
